LANXESS no longer depends on external CO2 supply

The German special chemicals group LANXESS announced today that it will invest 40 million euros in the construction of a CO2 enrichment unit at the Newcastle site in South Africa. LANXESS has a sodium dichromate production facility at its Newcastle site, and its production process requires uninterrupted supply of highly concentrated CO2. The new unit will capture and filter exhaust gas from the base's steam production process, concentrate the CO2 level to 99%, and provide it to the subsequent production process. The project will start in the first quarter of 2012 and will be put into operation in the second half of 2013, which will reduce CO2 emissions at the Newcastle site by 25%. After the new installation is completed, LANXESS will no longer rely on external CO2 supply.
