In Pan Longcheng, more than 3,000 years ago, what kind of treatment did the high class aristocrat enjoy after death? The archaeological report released by experts from the Department of Archaeology at Wuhan University unveiled this mystery.

Two large tombs are rich in funerary objects

In 2006, Panjiaocheng Yangjiawan discovered a large Shang Dynasty architectural relic. In order to understand the surrounding ruins, from September last year to January of this year, the Department of Archeology of Wuhan University and Panlong City Ruins Museum carried out archaeological explorations in the north and west, and excavated seven intensive Shang Dynasty tombs, numbered M16. -M22. So far, the Shang Dynasty tombs found in Yangjiawan, Panlong City have increased to 22 seats.

Dr. Chen Hui from the Department of Archaeology at Wuhan University was the person in charge of the excavation of the archeology of the field. He introduced that the funerary objects unearthed in the seven tombs were bronze ware, jade ware, pottery, lacquer ware and gold ware . Among them, the tombs of M17 and M19 have the largest scale, and the burial products are the most abundant. The scale of other tombs is relatively small, and the burial products are dominated by hard clay.

At present, the cleanup of these artifacts has been basically completed.

Gold and bronze are the first signs

Of the 7 tombs, the M17 was the largest, measuring 2.9 meters long and 1.6 meters wide. The burials were made in one piece. A total of 32 pieces of cultural relics were unearthed. One of the gold pieces was decorated with turquoise dragons and was first discovered in Panlong City. Goldsmith. This gold-plated turquoise inlaid dragon-shaped device is divided into two groups, one of which is relatively intact. The dragon head is composed of irregularly shaped turquoise, the dragon body is curled, and the smaller turquoise is composed of the dragon's eyebrows. The eyes and teeth are replaced by gold pieces, and the shapes and colors are very beautiful. In the other group, they only saw the dragon heads and they also had gold ornaments. " Gold is a rare resource at that time, indicating that the tomb owner is very high," said Chen Hui.

Professor Zhang Changping of Wuhan University’s Department of Archaeology introduced that gold instruments were discovered in the ruins of the Zhengzhou City Mall. However, their shape and unearthed background are unknown. “Panglongcheng M17 gold ornaments are comparable to Zhengzhou's counterparts and are found in the Central Plains cultural system to date. The earliest and well-defined gold instruments are of great significance for the study of early gold and mosaics."

M17 also unearthed a bronze animal face shaper, which was first seen in Panlong City and even the entire Shang Dynasty.

In addition, the more common hard clays found in the seven tombs were also found in the gutters on the outskirts of the large Shang dynasty buildings, and the number was large. This also reflected the higher status of people living in such high-grade buildings. .

Chen Hui said: “Academic circles generally believe that hard-coated pottery is produced in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. They appear in Panlong City. Whether it is 'imported' or locally produced is still a mystery.

Both monasteries have the phenomenon of monks

In addition to more artifacts such as bronze wares and hard pottery, the phenomenon of monks in the two large tombs also confirmed the noble status of the tombs.

Chen Hui introduced that the bones of the M17 tomb were not present. A skeleton was found between the north wall of the tomb and the diverticulum. In the middle and western parts, the lower limbs and upper limbs were seen. In the northeast corner, human teeth and skulls were found.

M19 sees two limbs inside the room, presumably the remains of the owner. In the northeast corner of the north-west corner of the second floor and the tomb room, there are two skeletons. They should be monks or monks.
